Twisted Nose Correction Surgery
A twisted nose occurs when the bones or cartilage in the nose are damaged, turning the nasal tip to the left or right. Most people with a twisted nose have nostrils that are asymmetrical, different in size or shape. Most twisted noses are caused by trauma or fractures – a broken nose that was not properly straightened after the injury may heal in a twisted position. Dr. Stefan Shuaib at Dallas Facial Plastic Surgery Center offers twisted nose correction surgery at our facility in Irving, TX.
A twisted nose can be mild, moderate or severe, depending on where the cartilage or bone is damaged. A mild twist may only involve the nasal tip – if the cartilage in the last third of the nose was injured, the tip may have shifted to one side. Moderate and severe twists in the nose may involve the tip, midsection and top of the nose, creating a more significant deformity. With more severe twists, the aesthetics and function of the nose can be affected.
Dr. Stefan Shuaib is a double board certified facial plastic surgeon who specializes in complex rhinoplasty procedures. His expertise and surgical artistry are used to restore proper form and function to twisted noses from previous injuries. Dr. Shuaib has extensive experience reshaping the bridge, tip and nostrils to create a symmetrical appearance from a twisted nose.
Straightening Twisted Noses
Mildly twisted noses may only need the nostrils or nasal tip altered to create the desired results. Moderate and severe twists require open rhinoplasty to correct the abnormalities in the structure. This may involve osteotomy to straighten the nasal bone if it healed in a crooked position. Cartilage grafts are often needed to straighten the bridge and reshape the nasal tip. The nasal tip may need to be deconstructed and reshaped with new cartilage to create the desired appearance.
If you have a previous nose injury that caused a twisted nose, rhinoplasty can correct the nasal appearance and function. Contact our team at Dallas Facial Plastic Surgery Center to schedule a twisted nose correction consultation with Dr. Shuaib at our center in Irving, TX.
