Aging and genetics are major factors in the size and shape of your lips. The delicate skin on and around the mouth is susceptible to aging, sagging and changing over the years. Plastic surgery can rejuvenate the lips or enhance lips that are not the shape or size you prefer. Dr. Stefan Shuaib at Dallas Facial Plastic Surgery Center offers lip lift and enhancement surgery at our facility in Irving, TX.
What Is a Lip Lift?
A longer upper lip and sagging at the corners of the mouth are a common aging problem. As the skin loses collagen and gravity takes hold, the upper lip can appear thinner. The skin stretches between the nose and mouth, making the upper lip longer. Fat and collagen loss in the lips can make them thinner and flatter. To rejuvenate the lips, plastic surgery is used to lift and reshape the mouth.
In a lip lift surgery, Dr. Shuaib shortens the upper lip and reshapes the pink skin of the mouth. A small incision is usually made at the base of the nose between the nostrils to access the upper lip skin. Excess skin is removed to shorten the upper lip. This creates a more youthful and balanced appearance for the mouth with the nose and other facial features.
Lip Enhancement Procedures
Along with a lip lift, other enhancements can be made to improve the appearance of the lips. The lip shape can be improved, and the Cupid’s bow at the top of the lips can be enhanced to create the desired shape. Some patients may have downward sagging at the corners of the mouth, which can be altered and lifted for a more youthful and pleasant appearance.
During lip lift and enhancement procedures, many patients opt to have volume added for a more sensuous appearance. Fat grafting can be performed with the lifting or reshaping to create the desired fullness and shape.
Every lip enhancement plastic surgery Dr. Shuaib performs is personalized to the patient to address their cosmetic concerns.
